What Is Allergy Immunotherapy?

Allergy immunotherapy (AIT) is a natural allergy treatment prescribed by an Allergist. Specific allergens are administered by injection or placed under the tongue routinely. Gradually the immune system gets used to or desensitized to the allergens. AIT is the only allergy treatment to prevent development of future allergies and asthma. The goal for most people on AIT is to experience fewer allergy symptoms and to discontinue routine allergy medication. Most people are eventually able to discontinue immunotherapy and maintain benefit for years to come.
