Allergies are the result of an abnormal immune system response to a natural part of the environment. A person becomes allergic when their body develops IgE antibodies against one of these natural substances, an allergen. When exposed to an allergen, like tree pollen in the springtime, an individual allergic to tree pollen may start to react. A person’s immune response to an allergen can vary from mild runny nose or sneeze to a severe asthma attack. After repeated exposure the severity of the reaction may increase.
