Asthma & Cough

What causes my asthma & cough?

Asthma is a chronic disease involving the airways in the lungs. These airways, or bronchial tubes, allow air to come in and out of the lungs. If you have asthma your airways are inflamed. They become even more swollen and the muscles around the airways can tighten when something triggers your symptoms. This makes it difficult for air to move in and out of the lungs, causing symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and/or chest tightness. The most common causes of chronic cough include asthma, vocal cord dysfunction, throat irritation from post-nasal drip or allergies, infection, or gastric reflux.

How do we evaluate your asthma & cough?

An allergist diagnoses asthma by taking a thorough medical history and performing breathing tests to measure how well your lungs work.

One of these tests is called spirometry. You will take a deep breath and blow into a sensor to measure the amount of air your lungs can hold and the speed of the air you inhale or exhale. This test diagnoses asthma severity and measures how well treatment is working.

As a tech-enabled company Auni Allergy uses the latest technology to evaluate your lung function. Using the first portable, cabinless pulmonary function test (PFT) machine with gasless LVM plethysmography, as well as spirometry and diffusion testing, you get the quality of a hospital box experience in the comfort of our outpatient office.

Auni Allergy Treatment Experiences

Intralymphatic (ILIT™) & Subcutaneous Immunotherapy (SCIT)

Intralymphatic immunotherapy (ILIT™) is a ground-breaking method of administering allergens directly to a lymph node. The injection procedure is performed in a comfortable outpatient setting under ultrasound guidance. Treatment is complete in 8 weeks.

Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) is an active treatment for aeroallergens that is done at home or on-the-go. SLIT involves placing allergen drops under the tongue every day. Updoses are administered in our office. The remainder of the treatment experience is done in the comfort of your home. Symptom improvement is gradual over the course of your treatment, generally 3-5 years.

Subcutaneous Immunotherapy (SCIT) & Biologics

Traditional subcutaneous allergy shots (SCIT) are used to treat allergies by injecting small amounts of the allergens under the skin of the arm once a week. Starting with a small amount of the allergen and gradually increasing the amount with each weekly injection, your body gets used to the allergen over 3-5 years.

Biologics are injectable medications that target specific molecules in our body to reduce inflammation that drives severe asthma, hives, nasal polyps, and eczema. A biologic can often provide relief when nothing else works to reduce steroid / antibiotic use and hospitalizations. Injections are administered in our office every 2-4 weeks.
